Opening 9th August

This is it! PrestonWall is opening.

For us it’s been a long summer, for many of you a longer 18 months, but the (re)opening is finally here!

On Monday August 9th 2021 @ 12pm the West View climbing legacy starts its brand new chapter as PrestonWall, now under the management of the Lakeland Climbing Centre Ltd.

On to the slightly bitter part, due to Brexit and logistical problems our new bouldering hall did not arrive as quickly as planned so will not be opening straight away but will follow a week later on Monday 16th August.

Now that’s over you’re all still going to have 750 sqm of roped climbing made up of 60 lines and over 150 routes made up of thousands of brand new holds to play with including several auto-belays. What more could you ask for?

After the opening of the Bouldering hall we’ll be following up with a special full launch event, but you’ll have to wait for details on that.

With COVID still a major concern we’ve set capacity limits in the Main Hall to 55 currently and will review this as time goes on

We look forward to seeing you on the walls next week!

Paul – Centre Manager

What will be your opening times?

We need to work in tandem with the Better facility so to begin with our opening times will be:

Mon-Fri: 12pm-9pm

Sat-Sun: 8am-6pm

We will be looking to extend these in time.

I used to climb at West View, am I still registered?

Unfortunately not, it’s best to view us as though you’re visiting a new wall for the first time. You’ll need to register with us first unless you are a customer at our MotherWall – KendalWall. All in-date registrations from Kendal will work at PrestonWall as well as any purchased memberships or punch cards. We’ll be releasing “registration bookings” on Monday 2nd through our website.

What are these “registration bookings”?

Quite simply they are a booking slot you can book on for you to come in to register and complete your competency check before we open on Monday 9th to help ease the process when we do open of not having everyone needing to register at the same time causing delays.

Can I just turn up or do I need to book?

You can you turn up to climb however, with restricted entry numbers there is no guarantee of space so we highly recommend booking in advance for the peak periods (i.e. after work from 5pm onwards). We charge a £1 booking fee to ensure that slot is reserve for you.

I’ve heard that LCC has invested heavily into the renovation of West View, what exactly have you done?

That’s quite a list I hope you’re ready:

New 250sqm roped climbing wall

New 500sqm bouldering in two new areas

New instruction traverse wall

Refurbished roped walls with new angles

Older roped walls cleaned and new t-nuts installed

Dedicated roped instruction area

3000+ new holds

30+ new volumes

New ropes for all top rope lines

New rope wall anchors and quickdraws

New hire equipment

New dedicated reception area

New dedicated climbing shop

New PA/Music system

Staff training

Dedicated booking and POS system

Why are you not doing any kids climbing?

We absolutely will be! All our instructed session will start from Monday 6th September. We are fully aware that many young climbers wish to get back on the walls however with a new wall, new staff and many climbers returning who have not climbed since the centre closed in 2020, we are being cautious and careful to ensure everyone is safe before introducing more variables into the mix. To be first to be able to book onto our kids classes register your interest at this link.

What are you doing to keep everyone safe with COVID?

More will be announced in the coming days but in brief we will have a masks on policy in the reception, shop and café areas, also with instructed sessions for those aged 12+. This is our mandatory policy and not optional with the recent “Freedom Day” relaxations.

We will be cashless, card and contactless payments only.

We will have COVID screens in place around reception.

We shall also be cleaning touch points regularly.

We will have capacity limits for the Main Hall and Bouldering Halls.

How much will it cost?

For opening we’ve mimicked the prices of KendalWall (listed below). If you’re looking to be a regular climber we highly recommend signing up to a membership or punch card which will allow you access to PrestonWall, KendalWall and LancasterWall (when it opens in a couple of months). Our prices and offerings will change in mid-September so we recommend topping up early to beat the increase!
